The MakhuduThamaga Home Community Based Care Umbrella NPO (MK Umbrella) is a South African non-profit Organization (NPO). MK Umbrella was established with a mission “to increase sustainable health access to communities in South Africa by providing health care service delivery” and, the vision is to “provide Primary Health Care (PHC) services in the community”. MK Umbrella is a current Global Fund (GF) Sub recipient (SR) under Beyond Zero (BZ), tasked to implement the Comprehensive Prevention Programs for Men who have sex with Men (MSM) including Human Rights for MSM (Men who have sex with Men) in Limpopo province at Sekhukhune District starting April 2022 ending March 2025. As such, MK Umbrella seeks to recruit for the positions outlined below, to be based at Jane Furse. The closing date for applications is 30 April 2023

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A strong foundation in financial management principles and practices.
  • Familiarity with the legal and regulatory framework governing non-profit organizations in South Africa, including the Non-Profit Organizations Act and tax laws related to NPOs. Understanding compliance requirements and reporting.
  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and grant management processes, including proposal writing, donor relations, and reporting. Understanding how to diversify funding sources and maximize financial resources.
  • Proficiency in developing and managing budgets, forecasting financial needs, and conducting financial analysis. The ability to align financial plans with the NPO’s strategic objectives and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Skill in preparing accurate and timely financial reports, interpreting financial data, and providing meaningful analysis to support decision-making. Knowledge of financial software and systems used in NPOs, such as accounting software and donor management databases.
  • Understanding the requirements for grant compliance, including monitoring the use of funds, tracking program expenses, and ensuring accurate reporting to donors and funding agencies.
  • Ability to identify and mitigate financial risks, develop internal control systems, and ensure compliance with relevant policies and procedures. Knowledge of risk assessment methodologies and experience in implementing risk management strategies.
  • Demonstrating high ethical standards, integrity, and accountability in financial decision-making and handling of funds. Upholding transparency and adherence to financial policies and ethical guidelines.
  • Commitment to staying updated on financial management best practices, emerging trends in the non-profit sector, and changes in relevant regulations and accounting standards in South Africa

Key Performance Areas:

  • Financial Planning and Analysis: Developing and implementing financial plans, budgets, and forecasts. Analysing financial data, identifying trends, and providing insights to support strategic decision-making.
  • Financial Reporting and Compliance: Ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements, such as the Companies Act and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Cash Flow Management: Monitoring and managing cash flow to optimize liquidity and ensure sufficient funds are available to meet operational and strategic requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identifying, assessing, and managing financial risks, including currency risk, interest rate risk, credit risk, and market risk. Implementing appropriate risk mitigation strategies and internal controls.
  • Tax Planning and Compliance: Working with tax advisors to develop tax strategies and ensure compliance with South African tax laws, including income tax, value-added tax (VAT), and payroll taxes.
  • Financial Systems and Processes: Overseeing the implementation and maintenance of financial systems, ensuring data accuracy and integrity. Streamlining financial processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
